Ernesto Antonio "Tito" Puente I was resolving in my mind what Latin jazz master to highlight for today's blog while listening to TP "El Rey". OMG, RESOLVED !!! I get too deep into my thought processes and didn't realize Tito is today's musical joy. I must confess, I wasn't a "full" Tito Puente fan until 2006. That's when I landed in Las Vegas and spent 2 years there with my family. My uncle, an avid vinyl LP collector from way way back had all this great music in pristine condition. He would polish each LP with passion and cautioned everyone looking, "you touch them, you lose a finger". His collection must have been, easily, between 500-800 LP's dating back to his Palladium years. So I persuaded him to allow me, with his supervision, convert them from analog to digital format. WOW !! it was a great moment for me as a salsero and Latin jazz fan to discover his hidden treasure. Tito popped up on the grid and that's when my uncle stated what I felt. He showed me a collection of Tito cd's given to him and told me he lacked confidence in Tito until he heard the collection. OMG !! did I say that 2x already ? I also felt the same way and then SHAME ON ME. What ignorance possesses one to be this 'Tupid ? I'm stupid ? and yes I did say that, because agreeing with my uncle was a mistake. Well, 'Tupid I was and now I'm better and give every jazz artist an opportunity to fully WOW me. Tito Puente is "El Rey" and his musical acumen was killer good. In fact so good that he deserves my respect, and has it, since 2006. Tito the Puerto Rican salsero, yeah you bet - Tito the LATIN JAZZ MASTER ... get your fill and grab on tight. He was amazing and delivered a range of vibes which STILL jump start parties today. I'm expanding my 5NINE3 Playlist today and include a master rumbero who's Latin jazz contributions were not just timbales. Tito was BIG BAND with BIG SOUND and BIG SWING and BIGGER VIBES, check out my playlist and enjoy tracks 41-45. My TP list totals 171 tracks and selecting 5 is a tall order. I know it's selfish of me, however, in the years to come I expect to give TP another tribute and provide you an additional nickle of TP's Latin jazz to jump start your party. Don't forget to share them with everyone and anyone who has yet to discover the Latin jazz power of Tito Puente. Bendiciones, Turabo Aymaco
