Rough week for me jazz community and I'm finally updating my blog with a BIG BAND with BIG SWING and BIG CULTURE from Japan. I spent all week trying to find work and earn some pennies to pay the bills.

Ecuador is a challenge and I aim to make my economic mark while I keep the faith and keep it positive. Latin jazz keeps me inspired and today I rise with the Sun of the East, Japón.

NOT Nippon people, Japón !

Back when I was a lil Rican in my early 30's I had heard of a salsa band called Orquesta de la Luz, all Japanese players with BIG boricua sound and swing. In fact, they all sang in Spanish, although none of it's singers knew what they were singing. From there, it's founder and leader Carlos Kanno formed an 18 piece ensemble called 熱帯JAZZ楽団 - Nettai Jazz Gakudan. How cool is that ? Latin jazz influence in Japón, and all it's players are native Japanese and swing to a 3/2 or 2/3 clave like native boricuas do. I've added 5 tracks to get you going with this BIG Japón BAND.

Bitter Sweet Bomba is my favorite, due to the brass sections ability to blow me away with BIG SWING. The Palladium days in NYC would be proud to have a live performance with My Favorite Things. Harlem's Cotton Club would love to showcase Mambo Inn. Upper East side Copacabana vibes with Ruinas and Broadway 96 jams to Sing Sing Sing.

Stick around this weekend and take in the Latin jazz BIG BAND sounds of Nettai Jazz Gakudan and leave me a comment or two. Share them with another jazz enthusiast and give them the gift of jazz.

Bendiciones
