Wendell Rivera Percussionist, Composer, Producer, Band Leader, Educator

Rivera’s Latin Jazz Ensemble brought Afro-Boricua grooves with harmonic melodies and progressive jazz to the Western/Niagara Falls region of New York State. In the year 2000, Rivera was inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame, an award that recognized his achievements and musical contributions to the Western New York area. Wendell has also been awarded and inducted into Buffalo Music Hall of Fame. With over 20 years as a percussionist, he has performed with and enhanced Latin jazz sets from the United States, Canada and the Caribbean Islands with the likes of Aretha Franklin, Arthuro Sandovar, Dave Valentin, Ralph Irizarry, Yomo Toro, Tito Gomez, Oscar Hernandez, and Humberto Ramirez.

His self-taught skills and natural abilities in the conga drum quickly brought the caliber of his playing to a professional level. Rivera's play called to the ears of some of the titular teachers of Latin Music: Tito Gómez, Joe Rodríguez "La Terrifica", and Josie León, writer / composer and former singer of The Orchestra Solution. He later enrolled in playing professionally with all three. While maintaining a strong commitment to Latin music, Wendell taught Afro-Latin Music at the University of Buffalo. Rivera also served on the United Musicians Board for Higher Education (MUSE), a non-profit organization that supports the arts as absolutely necessary for children, in terms of healthy physical, intellectual and emotional development. He also served on the Board of Directors for this small house, an after-school program with an emphasis on the arts.

Today's musical lineup is as follows:

Wendell Rivera is an extraordinary Latin musician worth having on your players list of favorites. Enjoy the five tracks and share with your local jazz community.
